Coilfang Reservoir (part 2)
Those conniving naga are up to something in Zangarmarsh. Vast pipes are draining the natural lakes and pumping water through to the reservoir at Coilfang. The Cenarion Expedition acts in defiance of this change in a struggle to save the region’s unique, fungal ecology and its sporelok natives.

The Underbog
Coilfang’s Eastern wing is a crowded place, packed with bog lords, spore bats and naga. Its quests will benefit Sporeggar, though reputation for the boss and mob kills goes to the Cenarion Expedition. You will also find the last two Cenarion druids here as part of the Lost in Action quest, although as Earthbinder Rayge will attest, Windcaller Claw may not come easily.
- Sporeggar: Bring Me a Shrubbery!
Repeatable – gather 5 Sanguine Hibiscus, which grows wild in the Underbog. - Sporeggar: Oh, It’s On
Fetch an Underspore Frond from a plant on Hungarfen’s platform. - Sporeggar: Stalk the Stalker
Kill the Black Stalker and return his brain to Khn’nix at Sporeggar.
The mobs can be a little messy – some of them patrol, but most of the battle is in identifying the various poison spitters, healers and melee attackers amidst the dungeon’s foliage. Paladins, druids, priests and shaman may expect to dispel their fair share of poisons and diseases.
There are four bosses here, of considerably tougher difficulty than their Slave Pens predecessors:
- Hungarfen, a mushroom-sprouting bog lord. Once you’ve pulled and dispensed with his guards, you face a hectic battle against the bog lord and some lethal exploding mushrooms. It’s a good idea to deal with the mushrooms as a priority ahead of blasting the boss himself.
- Ghaz’an, a hydra with a mean tail flick. His battle takes place on a platform raised above a perilous water pool. Get knocked off and you’ll have to fight through piranhas to get back into the fight.
- Swamplord Musel’ek, a hunter with a penchant for bear pets. His fight can be very tricky indeed, as he is often accompanied by a bog lord – pull the bog lord first to try and reduce their numbers before aggroing Musel’ek. It’s also worth bearing Earthbinder Rayge’s advice in mind…
- The Black Stalker, a looming swamp walker with a tendency to fling players clear out of its arena. This can easily go quite wrong, particularly if the tank is flung back into the corridor you entered from, so it’s usually a good idea to back up against a wall. Magi, priests and engineers may find their slow falls beneficial, or they might quickly be robbed of half their health.
The Steamvault
Coilfang’s level 70 wing is a real test of crowd control. Its enemies can cast Fear and Silence in an area of effect, but the majority are humanoid and thus susceptible to Mind Controls and Saps. Its quests are a mixture of chains and item drops:
- Coilfang Reservoir: The Warlord’s Hideout
Slay Warlord Kalithresh. - The Steamvault: Orders from Lady Vashj
Deliver the orders you’ve looted to the Cenarion Refuge.
There are two quests which form part of lengthy attunement and gear-forging chains, too:
- Shadowmoon Valley: Underworld Loam
Illidari-Bane Blade item forging – Fetch the loam from Hydromancer Thespia, who drops the item only in non-heroic mode. This chain begins at an item drop from Overseer Ripsaw, a gan’arg in Shadowmoon Valley’s Legion Hold.
- Shattrath City: The Second and Third Fragments
Attunement to Karazhan – Obtain the second key fragment from an Arcane Container here, along with the third in Tempest Keep’s Arcatraz.
The mobs can be a little messy – some of them patrol, but most of the battle is in identifying the various poison spitters, healers and melee attackers amidst the dungeon’s foliage. Paladins, druids, priests and shaman may expect to dispel their fair share of poisons and diseases.
There are three bosses here: Hydromancer Thespia, a naga water elementalist and lightning caster; Mekgineer Steamrigger, a Thermaplugg-style mech suit who summons gnomish repairmen; Warlord Kalithresh, a naga whose channelled ability can generally cause a wipe should he succeed.
