Uldaman

Uldaman is an old Titan complex, and one of a trio of major ancient holdings in Azeroth. Since its settlement by the Dark Iron dwarves, Uldaman has fallen into disrepair and is now largely populated by confused troggs and angered earthen. Evidence of the Titans’ settlement may be found within, but many of the world’s factions now covet Ulduman’s other various riches.

Overview

Uldaman is a zone which will bear far greater meaning to Alliance players (and dwarfs in particular) than Horde, but it reveals fascinating secrets of the world’s very creation. What you discover here will take you to the very gates of Uldum, and will echo in the lightning and stone halls of Ulduar.

Troggs and earthen warriors await, making a decent challenge for a well-balanced party capable of humanoid crows control and the odd spell interruption. The main difficulties here lay in the bosses, which are sure to provide some panicked thrills.

Horde player quests come from far and wide – from nearby Kargath, the Undercity and Orgrimmar. They’re also layered in a strange fashion…

Quests

Despite what some of the quest chain descriptions say, only a few actually take place inside the instance. Some interested parties will only ask you to plunder the dig site surrounding the Uldaman vault, such as these:

  • Kargath: Badlands Reagent Run
Gather fangs, gizzards and stone shards from the many beasts other questgivers have asked you to slay.

    • Kargath: Uldaman Reagent Run
Venture into the dig site and gather 12 mushrooms. The mushrooms can be found inside the Uldaman vault, too.

    • Valley of Fangs, Badlands: Power Stones
Gather 8 Dentrium and 8 An’alleum power stones from the ark Iron dwarves at the dig site.
    • Agmond’s End, Badlands: Solution to Doom
Fetch an ancient rune stone from one of the chambers excavated at the Uldaman dig site.
    • Undercity: Reclaimed Treasures
Fetch the Garrett family inheritance from a room excavated in the dig site.

Only two quests require materials from within the instance itself. The easier of the two is as follows:

    • Indurium Ore (to Mirage Raceway, Thousand Needles)
Hand this highly resistant metal ore into Pozzik at the Mirage Raceway in Shimmering Flats, 5 at a time. Requires you to have begun the Goblin Sponsorship chain at Shimmering Flats, which sends you to Booty Bay and to the Badlands.

    Orgrimmar: Necklace Recovery

The Horde’s main quest chain for this instance is actually a little cold. Dran Droffers, the scrap merchant in Orgrimmar, wants you to uncover a necklace rumoured to have been lost in the vault by an “idiotic paladin”. Though at first glance it appears to be a straightforward instance quest, it actually takes some preparation and planning in order to reduce frustration.

    1. First, find the Shattered Necklace, regardless of whether you have the Necklace Recovery quest active or not.1 It’s in the possession of the Dark Iron dwarves who man the Uldaman dig site outside the instance, and so is best completed alongside Reclaimed Treasures, Solution to Doom, Uldaman Reagent Run and Power Stones (see above). Most of these quests can be conducted alone, but squishier characters may benefit from having a partner to hand in some of the tight corridors.
1 You can find this item without having the quest active, however its purpose will seem ambiguous until you speak to Droffers. This means that if you’ve only picked quests up from Kargath before moving to Uldaman, you don’t need to fly to Orgrimmar just to start this chain. You can go about your business in the dig site, hand the other quests in and then fly up to start and hand this quest in right away. Alliance players do not have this problem – the necklace itself is a quest starter for them, hence why Horde players trying to use the necklace are told “that quest is not available to your race”.
    2. Orgrimmar: Necklace Recovery, Take 2
Find the gems which are missing from the necklace. Droffers believes that the deceased paladin may still be in possession of pieces, and in fact the paladin is found quite close to the instance’s entrance. It may be prudent to hearth back to Kargath as soon as you’ve found the corpse in order to hand the next phase of this quest in, or you face a second dungeon run just to complete step 4.
    3. Translating the Journal (to Kargath)
Find somebody capable of translating this artefact in Kargath.
    4. Kargath, Badlands: Find the Gems and Power Source
Compile the necklace pieces, found inside the Uldaman instance within containers and on the trogg leader, Grimlok. This is the last phase of the chain which will involve entering the instance.
    5. Kargath: Deliver the Gems
Return to Dran Droffers in The Drag.
    6. Orgrimmar: Necklace Recovery, Take 3
      Return to Jarkal in Kargath.
