Blackrock Spire

This uniquely-structured dungeon is actually two instances in one. Though it isn’t separated into wings like Hellfire Citadel (in which Hellfire Ramparts and Shattered Halls comprise two dungeons separate from Blood Furnace’s raid), the choice is made early on whether to turn right, battling orc enemies intended for a 5-strong party, or left, into raid-quality foes.

This guide is predominantly focused on the 5-man section of the spire.

Quests

• [55] Kargath, Badlands: Warlord’s Command
  Slay three bosses within Blackrock Spire and collect [Important Blackrock Documents]. This quest is actually given by a sealed letter, granted to you once you hear Warlord Goretooth’s story.
• [55] Kargath, Badlands: Operative Bijou
  Locate Bijou within Blackrock Spire. She will then grant you two more quests: one to find her belongings, then a report back to Lexlort.
• [55] Steamwheedle Port, Tanaris: The Final Tablets
  Locate the fifth and sixth tablets, stored in the troll-controlled section of Blackrock Spire. This quest requires you to have completed the Screecher Spirits chain up to this point.
• [55] Flame Crest, Burning Steppes: En-Ay-Es-Tee-Why
  Gather more animal young from the spire; this time spider eggs.
• [55] Flame Crest, Burning Steppes: Mother’s Milk
  Have Mother Smolderweb poison you, then return to Ragged John. Note that you are expected to hand this quest in as soon as Smolderweb is defeated; fail to have the poison ‘milked’ and you’ll cast annoying debuffs on the rest of your party, but remove the poison and the quest cannot be handed in. If you have a warlock within the party you can theoretically hearth to Kargath, hand the quest in and receive a summons back into the dungeon.

  Gather worg puppies from within Blackrock Spire.
• [55] Kargath, Badlands: The Pack Mistress
  Defeat Halcyon.
• [57] Blackrock Spire: Seal of Ascension
  Gather three gemstones and return them to Vaelen with the [Unadorned Seal of Ascension]. This legacy quest requires you to have found the seal in the first place, and was once the only means of unlocking the upper spire. This is now no longer required. Vaelen may be found in disguise, not far from the entrance to Hordemar.

    Travel to the Wyrmbog in Dustwallow Marsh and beat Emberstrife into submission. You may then mind control him, designating him your pet, in order to craft the [Seal of Ascension].

  Follow Warosh’s instructions to summon Urok and restore his mojo.

The Plagued Dragonflight

Though it is intended for 10-man raids, upper Blackrock Spire (unlocked either by using the [Seal of Ascension] or disrupting the rune seals around the door) is the site of two quests forming part of the ‘plagued dragonflight’ chain. As the raid section is so short it may be worthwhile forming a group to access these quests, delivered by Tinkee Steamboil at Flame Crest.

The chain begins with Tinkee as she asks you to collect [Broodling Essence] from the young dragons in Burning Steppes. She then refers you to an engineering colleague in Winterspring before you return to test her [Eggscilloscope] out in Blackrock Spire’s rookery.

Entry into this part of Blackrock need not be complicated; the rookery is an early stop in the raid, with half a dozen dragonkin, around three-dozen orcs and a fire elemental boss separating it from the 5-man content. If you can form a 10-man party or gather high-level escorts to clear these two raid rooms, you’re given free access to an entirely solo-friendly pair of quests. This can be accomplished by a lone level 80 character.

Once in the room you will be asked to test the device, and you must return to Tinkee before you can collect any of these eggs up. The reset timers are generous enough to allow a high-level character to run back to Flame Crest, and then to re-enter the instance, but you will have to deal with the orcs in Blackrock Mountain’s lobby before being allowed back in. Because of this it is recommended that your group bring a warlock in. Your party can create a summoning portal, hearth to Kargath or run out to Flame Crest, and request a summons back into the instance.

Assuming your party has no interest in the raid segments, you can then exit the rookery and continue with the 5-man content. Handing the eggs in to Tinkee unlocks the chain’s finale in the Scholomance.
